FAQ

Answers to frequently asked questions about Sportmotorik

What do I need to bring to an analysis?

Please bring short or tight-fitting sportswear and your running or sports shoes.

Where and when can I pick up my SonsoSoles?

You will receive a pick-up slip from us when your SensoSoles are ready, you can pick them up at our orthopaedic specialist store Gerlinger, Seidengasse 29, the opening hours can be found on the back of your pick-up slip or here. Please bring your shoes with you to fit and try on your soles!

Why don’t you sell running shoes?

There are too many different suppliers and models, depending on foot shape, deformity, running style, etc. We carry out our analyses completely independently of a sports brand and we will be happy to provide you with a list of current seasonal models from various brands that are just right for you.

What is the difference between SensoSoles and podological insoles?

Podological insoles work with low elements, up to approx. 4mm thick, and the focus of correction here is mainly on posture. SensoSoles, i.e. sensomotoric insoles, work with pressure points that are at least 4mm high or more, depending on the misalignment, and are specifically designed to improve foot and leg posture. It is also possible to combine both variants.

How do sensomotoric insoles work in contrast to classic orthopaedic foot orthoses?

Sensomotoric insoles activate the muscles; similar to a training device in a shoe, the foot muscles are challenged with every step and it is often possible to correct the misalignment in the long term. In comparison, orthopaedic insoles provide passive support and the corrective effect is only present while the insole is being worn.

Do Senso insoles help with heel spurs?

Yes, because two elements of the SensoSoles can relax the plantar fascia and also the Achilles tendon, thus relieving the pain of heel spurs. In addition, exposure and soft bedding can be performed in the painful area. You can also find more information here.

What does a professional running analysis cost?

You can find the prices for all our analyses here.

How can I improve my posture?

During a posture analysis, asymmetries, rotations, muscular tension, etc. are identified with the help of a 3D back scan. With small plates, neuropads, which are placed under the sole of the foot, the posture is changed and checked by further measurements. The optimum result serves as the basis for adapting the insoles to improve posture in the long term. We will also provide you with movement exercises to support you. You can also find details on posture analysis here.

What do I need for a bike fitting?

Please bring your bike, your cycling shoes and also your cycling clothing.

Are SensoSoles adapted to the foot or are there prefabricated models?

Sensomotoric insoles are custom-made using a foot scan. They are CAD-designed on the computer and then milled by machine. Finally, our SensoSoles are fitted into the footwear by hand in order to activate the muscles as optimally as possible.

Can I wear SensoSoles in different shoes?

With a similar cut and the same shoe size, the SensoSoles can also be switched back and forth between different shoes.

Does health insurance cover the costs of an analysis?

Our analyses are private services and are therefore covered at most by supplementary insurance.

Does Sportmotorik perform shockwave therapy for painful heel spurs?

No, we do not offer shock wave therapy. However, a sensomotoric insole after shock wave therapy can relax the foot muscles in the long term and thus additionally support the therapy and also provide relief for acute heel spurs.

Do SensoSoles help with foot malpositions (flat foot, splayfoot, flatfoot)?

Yes, because each of the foot misalignments listed is mainly a muscular weakness of the foot, which can be counteracted with specific muscle training and sensorimotor insoles.

Although I exercise my legs regularly, I still have pain in my knees, hips or back, why?

Many pain patterns in the entire musculoskeletal system can be traced back to instabilities in the foot muscles. As soon as specific foot training is started or supportive activation of the foot muscles begins, the knee, hip, back and shoulder areas also improve in many cases.

I have been diagnosed with pelvic obliquity, can SensoSoles be helpful here?

In many cases, a low pelvis is also partly due to muscular causes – we can clarify this in the course of our posture analysis. In such cases in particular, wearing an insole made on the basis of the analysis is sensible and effective.

Can I also wear the insoles in everyday life or only during sport?

Our SensoSoles are designed for everyday use as well as for sports. For optimum effect, the insoles should be worn for as many hours a day as possible. Ideally, the insoles should be worn both in everyday life and during sport.

I have just received SensoSoles and they feel very intense when worn, is this normal?

As our SensoSoles are designed to activate the foot muscles, a familiarization phase of a few days to several weeks is often completely normal, especially at the beginning. We recommend slowly increasing the daily wearing time. If you continue to experience discomfort when wearing the insoles after a longer period of time, we will of course be happy to take a closer look at the problem.

Am I at the right address for my fitting at Sportmotorik Vienna?

If the aim is not to provide advice before buying a bike or to test various components in the handlebars, cranks or pedals, Sportmotorik is the right address for detailed optimization of the position on an existing bike.

What is the process of a bike fitting at Sportmotorik Vienna?

The wheel you bring with you is clamped onto the roller and, after measuring the initial position, we try to continuously improve the position on the wheel based on the measurement data collected and our experience.

Is power measurement also offered?

With our bike fittings, the power (watts) at the pedal is not measured. We are working on optimization using pressure measurements and video analysis.

Can I bring different saddles to test?

Yes, you can try out different saddles. An incorrectly adjusted bike is often the cause of saddle problems. Therefore, the first step is usually to try to adjust the current saddle correctly. If this is unsuccessful, saddles from GebioMized or saddles you have brought yourself can be tried on site and the results compared.

Which components can be adjusted in the fitting?

Everything that can be adjusted on the bike using standard tools. This normally includes saddle height, saddle angle, saddle position, cleats and, depending on the type, certain adjustments to the handlebars. IMPORTANT: if special wrenches are required for certain adjustments on the bike, please bring these with you to the fitting.

Which components are NOT sold or replaced by us?

components on the handlebars, stem, cranks or pedals. If we notice that components are not suitable (e.g. handlebars too wide, stem too long, crank too long, etc.), we will be happy to recommend replacing these components and, if there are any uncertainties after the replacement, we will be happy to compare the measurements with the original starting position.

Do I have to pay the full price for a fitting again for a second appointment with the same bike for further optimization or after an external component change?

No, we offer our ‘Re-Check Bike‘ package for a shorter optimization period for bikes that have already been fitted.

Can I have a second bike fitted at the same appointment?

This is generally possible, but more time must be allowed for the fitting and an additional charge will be made. If you are interested, please let us know in advance when making your request.

Does the wheel have to be fully assembled?

The bike must be fully assembled – including the front and rear wheels.

Is an electric dartboard or a cork dartboard used in the analysis laboratory?

In Sportmotorik, darts are thrown on a standard cork dartboard. Therefore, please bring your own darts for analysis.

I have forgotten my steel darts and/or dart shoes or don’t have any – can I still come to the analysis?

Yes, the analysis can still be carried out. We have standard steel darts for this case, which we are happy to provide for the analysis, and there is also a pressure measurement system available with which the pressure curve of the feet can be analyzed without shoes.

My dance shoe is very tight, do additional insoles really fit in the shoe?

If there is a problem in the toe area of men’s shoes, the insole can also be made short. In the heel area, the insole adapts completely to the shoe and there are no problems slipping out of the shoe.

Is it possible to keep the original cover on women’s shoes?

In a closed ladies’ shoe, it is possible to retain the entire top. In a shoe that is open at the side, we endeavor to preserve the original cover, otherwise we select a suede cover that matches the original tone.

How does the insole/forefoot support relieve my foot when dancing?

In the men’s dance shoe, the Superlight insole stabilizes the longitudinal arch and thus the entire foot. In addition, the forefoot relief, just like in the women’s shoe, relieves the ball of the foot during dancing and thus ensures a longer and pain-free dance experience.

Why does a dance shoe relief for men’s shoes cost more than for women’s shoes?

Since a complete orthopaedic custom-made insole, model Superlight, can be inserted in the men’s dance shoe, which can also be changed, and in the women’s shoe only the cover is opened and a forefoot relief is incorporated.

What is the difference between Running Analysis Health and Running Analysis Performance?

The biggest difference is that the analysis focuses on different aspects. Running Analysis Health focuses on problems and pain or weaknesses when running and also in everyday life.
The Running Analysis Performance package focuses on improving performance and serves to improve and optimize running style and certain running parameters.

Which running analysis is better for me, Health or Performance?

Do you have pain when running, are you just starting to run or would you like to have a running analysis to prevent injuries? Then the running analysis health package is the right one for you.
Has running been an integral part of your life since childhood or for many years, maybe you are even in a club with a coach and have already taken part in competitions or half marathons/marathons? Then the running analysis performance package is the right thing for you to analyze and improve specific running parameters.

What does the “upgrade” mean for the performance package?

Customers who have already carried out a running analysis with us are offered the opportunity to upgrade to the Performance Package, as a lot of data has already been recorded and the focus can be placed specifically on performance optimization.

I always have the same pain when running with 2 or more different pairs of running shoes. Which package is the right one?

In this case, we would recommend the running analysis Health, as we are basically concerned with pain reduction and running style economization. Please inform us in advance if you are bringing more than 2 pairs of running shoes for analysis.

I’m coming to the bike fitting by car, where can I park?

Directly in front of the store is a Viennese short-term parking zone (7th district) and sometimes it can be difficult to find a parking space. Alternatives are a parking garage approx. 100m away at Kaiserstraße 45, the Lugner-City Garage in Burggasse or at Westbahnhof (approx. 10 minutes on foot).

What is the process of an AI-supported analysis?

The gait pattern is recorded laterally and frontally using an AI-supported app. Data on lateral stability is evaluated, meaning that one-sided strain can be detected very well. The touchdown and roll-off behavior as well as symmetry when walking are also evaluated. This data can be used to identify gait uncertainties and general weaknesses in the gait pattern.

When is an AI-supported gait analysis useful?

An AI-supported gait analysis is particularly useful in cases of gait insecurity, asymmetrical gait or gait behavior and one-sided complaints when standing or walking in the area of the feet, legs or hips. This method can also be used to better analyze foot lift weakness. The AI-supported method is particularly suitable for uncertainties on the treadmill, as no analysis on the treadmill is necessary.

When is an AI-supported posture analysis useful?

An AI-supported posture analysis is carried out while walking and is particularly useful in the case of a strongly asymmetrical posture in the pelvis, upper body or back, in the case of diagnosed pelvic obliquity/leg length discrepancy or scoliosis, as well as after operations in the foot, knee, hip or upper body, and provides dynamic added value in addition to the static analysis.

When is AI-assisted bike fitting useful?

An AI-supported bike fitting is useful if there is a medical history (knee/hip surgery), leg length differences or strong internal/external rotations of the feet or if general posture/back problems also occur in everyday life, not just on the bike. The AI analysis refines the body check before the bike fitting and a measurement of the forefoot rotation is carried out, which forms the basis for an exact cleat position.
